I have Lots of Books out at the moment including the extremely limited edition Fahrenzine004 What Goes Around, but if you’ll excuse me for a moment I want to talk about something more than books. About someone more than books.
July 10 1990 I went out with some friends to commiserate the end of my latest 6 week romance, and smiled at a shy and sweet boy across the room.
We danced to Yazoo “Don’t Go,” and he didn’t.
That first night he made me laugh, and showed himself to be the sweetest most genuine and kindest person I’d met in a long time. And a great kisser.
He still makes me laugh, and he’s still all those things. He’s been a cheerleader, a coach, a roadie, an ear, a shoulder to cry on and someone who lets me spend my spare time writing while he does the gardening. And I love him more than I ever thought possible.
He’s one of the main reasons I’m still here today, and proof, no matter how dark and sad things may feel some times, that light can shine on you when and where you least expect it <the corner of the downstairs dance floor in BANG! on Charing Cross road, in our case> and that eventually, #LoveWins.
We’ve had some brilliant times and some hard times but no matter what we will always be here for each other.
And I will always love him.
Thank you, David, for 30 years. x
That is beautiful Derek. I love the pictures and the one posted of you from just after I first met you all those years ago. If I was told then that you would go on to have the wonderfully successful corporate career, writing career and happy family life you have now – I wouldn’t have doubted it one bit. Your star has always shone bright and you touch the hearts of people you meet- and now your readers. Well done. Love you always xxx
